9.5kw shower 6mm cable

Hi all I’m about to fit a new cu client has bought a new shower 9.5kw but his cable is only 6mm as all certs will be included what fuse should I put it on if any or should I recommend lower shower or bigger cable 10mm the problem being I don’t think they want the inconvenience of running new cable.new board going in so red protection not a problem but manual says 40A required any advice would be appreciated thanks

All depends on the run of the cable and the installation methods. You might be able to squeek it if the run is perfect.

Chase in wall from cu to first floor then not sure, not been in loft yet so I can’t confirm if it goes straight up or goes under the floorboards and then up,and there’s me thinking Thursday is going to be a nice day

Dont take the risk for the customer unless your 100%. I would say 8.5kw ok on 6mm anything above 10mm.

8.5kW will still require a 40A ocpd so the cable design will be the same as the 9.5kW.

That would depend on the installation method. It could be 6mm for both, 10mm for both, 16mm for the higher one, or anything in between.

I would put In a 10mm cable just in case they decide to put in a bigger shower at a later date.

8.5 kw /240 =35amps =40 amps or do you think 32amps

The OCPD only needs to satisfy the load demands of the shower and only needs to provide fault protection as overload protection isn’t required for a fixed load such as a shower.
