Evening.....just a bit of advice please?
Earth present on all sockets and lighting fitting terminals along with all light switch boxes......apart from one light fitting..although there is an earth cable running to it. Is it order to run a 4mm earthing cable from the fitting and cable and tap into a nearby lighting run to pick up an earth?

Thanks..

Have you checked for earth continuity at the lighting circuit cables?

Worth seeing if you can find where it's fed from. Maybe a nearby fitting. Could be that the cpc has fallen out of a terminal and can be easily sorted.

Earth continuity back to consumer unit from all earth terminals in the house apart from this run. Unable to access jb from whence it comes, without either ripping up floor boards and fittings or cutting a big hole in kitchen ceiling which would give the missus a thrombie...hence would my query /fix be acceptable? There are a few class 2 sealed led's on this run so not earthed though earth continuity maintained between each. The issue may arise in the future though, should they be replaced with fittings requiring an earth...

If you cannot rectify the earth continuity problem there is no reason why you cannot "borrow" from another source.

Ideally you'd run the cpc from another part of the same lighting circuit, picking it up from another circuit could lead to it being disconnected later on by accident

Or just fit a class 2 fitting and note the reasons on your cert ......

Not sure I understand fully what you are asking about, but if you are getting Zs reading at the end of the line and there is no rick of electric shock from the appliance (class 2) then I wouldn't bother with an additional earth path.

It could be a loss of earth at one point but something has caused this, loose connection maybe which in turn could lead to further loss of continuity particularly under fault conditions.

Well.....The bad practices of some never cease to amaze me! At this point I have to say I had an electrical background albeit 14 yrs in the mob as an aircraft leckie. I went on to rewire a few houses I lived in ...when you were permitted to do so and one more recently that was then checked and certified etc. My query on this occasion was whether or not my possible solution would be acceptable whilst taking into account current regs.
In the end I had part of the kitchen ceiling down.....easier than getting a few floorboards and furniture up...and found a 30A three way jb ..with the earths from supply in/out and switch just twisted together.....and earth to fitting cut off. All sorted with a 4 way and left all neat and tidy..and earthed...The house..about 160 yrs old was rewired by a contractor 17 yrs ago.....before we bought it!

Maintenance free would have been better and easier. Glad you got this sorted though.
