Trying to replace an old bathroom light fitting that had a pull cord with a light from Ikea that fits over a cabinet. It looks great, but because it hasnt got a switch it would be permanently on! Not very practical.

Is there an easy way to add a switch, perhaps a sensor one? presumably switch needs to be ip44 as its in a bathroom and ideally mounted on the edge or underneath the cabinet

Yes it is possible to add a switch, but that is a job for an electrician.
Does your light have a permanent supply? Maybe comes on with the bathroom light.

Maybe take it back and get a light with a switch on @stressymum ? Or take the pull switch out of the old light and put it in the new light? Or fix the old light if it is broken. Or get a pull switch and fit it to new light??? When you say over the cabinet, sounds a bit strange rather than in the cabinet where it might be more useful, perhaps a pic of the cabinet with existing light could be very useful.
