Hello people, just finished my Am2 today and all went well, finished everything and didnt really have an issue with anything in regards to install, testing and fault finding. But... when we finished i asked the examiner what are some of the mistakes people make. And he said installing the wrong cable size. I know i put 1.5mm instead of 1.0mm for the 2 way intermediate lighting circuit and i feel like bashing my head against the wall... any idea if this will just get marked down as a minor? As its not unsafe. Thanks

What did the design say?

Regardless of what happens in the real world part of the assessment is your ability to follow a design. If you do not install what the designer has stated then you have failed to follow his design so have failed that part of the assessment.

You will be penalised for it, you have to follow the spec regardless. When i did my am2 they were very adamant about following the spec by word without deviations.

I forgot to put the gland on my MI, it ended up as a pot rattling round in a 20mm hole. Still passed though. Although I did go to pains to point out that it was the invigilator's fault for waffling to me while I was making the end off. :D

Adam, can you let them know that you used 1.5 rather than the specified 1mm and show you realised your mistake ? That might help unless they're total jobsworths- and it's a much better mistake to make than using an undersized cable.

It finished today so I'm now waiting for my results, and i agree. I am hoping i will get marked down as am sure your allowed so many minors. If i was to wire the ring final in 1.5mm instead of 2.5mm i would understand. It is what it is, I'll just resit if fail.
