Hi Lads,

Anyone here sat a trade test for AMEC? I've got one this month and was after a heads up on the questions they ask. Im COMPEX trained and work on a gas site at the moment so I'm not worried but I hate doing anything blind.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Spark85,

I sat the test last year, Its very easy! As long as you know basic power calcs - Ohms law and Compex you should be finished in 20 minutes!

However I found it a waste of time! I passed, Did all of the courses in the afternoon and was basically guaranteed a start. 3 weeks of following up with Amec and I found out they only took on 6 new starts. A very different figure to the 60+ I was told!

It seems to be a good way of getting a lot of names in case they get desperate and run out of "experienced" lads!

Have you been offshore before? What's your background?

I gave up on offshore employment fairly quickly! Seems very difficult to get offshore even with a good background and to be honest sitting in the middle of a sea for weeks on with your thumb up your arse sounds seriously boring!

Best of luck with the test and I hope it works out for you.

Hi Paul I from onshore experience like petro chemical and rig fabrication just never went off shore wasn't sure if there was a pratical trade test is it multi choice or written answers

Its a multi choice exam, Very easy stuff. No practical involved. I don't think you would be invited to sit a test if your CV wasn't up to scratch so they probably assume you know your practical.
