Discuss Anger after 'hardcore huntress' shoots goat on Scottish island in the Electricians Chat - Off Topic Chat area at ElectriciansForums.net

I'd say the primary difference is the fact goats are a non-native invasive species. Giraffes (and other wild game) in Africa are not.

Left unchecked invasive species can do untold damage to our ecosystem. Look at the grey squirrel, mink, the American Signal Crayfish, Japanese Knotweed... do I need to go on?
No you don't need to go on.
I eat meat, I think if a species in a specifc location needs cullng so be it.
But like I said, if some people out there actually enjoy the act of killing then they are low life scum.
Not sure what 'non-native invasive species' has to do with it to be honest.

There is a world of difference between hunting game in Africa (much of which is endangered or at risk) and goats, which seem to be the animal that triggered the outrage in the OP.

I agree with @Strima, game hunters in Africa... scum, whether it's legal or not.

There's numerous examples of where humans have brought species into an area and they have flourished then ravaged the area of other animals/flora/fauna to the point where the ecology has been destroyed.

A few years ago there was a cull of cats in the Falklands as they had no natural predators and they were causing devastation on local bird populations.

For me, it's the difference between "hunting" and "culling". I dislike the former, although I accept there are those for whom it is a legitimate pastime or even career. The latter is fine, imho...we do need to cull certain species from time to time...deer in particular, in Scotland. My brother in law has to shoot deer every year, and has to do it himself as he cannot afford to pay others to do it for him, but he doesn't like it...he does it to comply with the regulations governing his landholding.
I guess it's down to do you do it for fun, or for necessity? American style "posing" over a "kill" is not my idea of a good picture. Others will have their own opinions.
Incidentally, you can butcher deer in your garage and sell it by the roadside, without any regs or licence, I believe...
Here in Spain, goat is very popular, "cabra", and delicious...it is shot for the table, not for sport.

I used to do a bit of both. Late eighties there was a lot of rabbits in our area with Mixi that required culling, used to get 5p a rabbit from the local conservation officer, not a massive profit as a cartridge was 3p... You could get cartridges supplied free of charge but the powder they used must have been left over from the war of the Roses as I would spend more time cleaning carbon off than shooting.

Game hunting was always a pleasure, I particularly enjoyed pheasant, unlike the posh bods with lots of beaters we would stalk and hopefully get them on the ground before they had chance to make flight.

We never wasted them, they either ended up hung in the garage for a week before eating or were flogged off down the local pub for a couple of pints or swap out for some fresh veg from the allotments.

I miss those days, we had a really close knit community that stuck together, now the pub is just serving the odd pink gin to some lefty loonie who would quite happily phone up health control if you were to take a dead animal in a pub...

No prob with killing for the table or culling for that matter .I think we have a big problem with animal liberation loonies. However when it comes to killing for sport and glorifying in the attention that her posts attract then she ought to expect some bad ---- coming down and I for one hope karma isn't far away

To be honest, a psychopathic Yank with a gun, what could possibly go wrong? I’m surprised she managed to hold her **** together long enough to find Scotland.:)
