Hi all, I had my assessment the other day and shown him a job with a replacement board. The tails ran up in the cavity wall from the meter box below on the outside of the house and in from the back of the cu, he said that I should seal the hole in the wall where the tails come through into the cu and inside the meter box where they enter the cavity. I've looked through the regs book and can't find it any where, thanks in advance, scooterboy

Did he not tell you why, if someone is to pull you up on something they should give you a reason.

Maybe he is allergic to these

Why not, I would and do. Just because it was suggested to you as, perhaps good quality work, you won't find everything in BS7671.

Incidentally, don't like running tails up cavity walls, if I can help it. :)

I would say this was applying sealing of penetrations against water ingress as required under the building regulations AD C ( and possibly fire under AD B). However if the tails were inside the meter cabinet then there would be little risk of water entry.
I would usually seal an opening in a wall if I can get to it.
Interestingly I am going to inspect a house today after a fire where the fire only penetrated the wall cavity from next door and apparently caused significant damage.

Stop the drafts so the householder is not tempted to seal with something unsuitable, like thermal insulation, that could cause the tails to overheat. Just a thought (and one I tend to act on).
