This is not a consumer unit mcb's etc wylex identical with another name for another country eg like we used to have Marathon and others had Snickers. Just the name and printing different.

funny that. just quoted a job to fit a new shower. 1960'shager DB, no RCD, and the ptatt who fitted the existing shower ( 9.5kW wired in 10.0mm ) fitted a 50A Volex MCB on it. this was under 3 years ago, so apart from mixing devices, he'd completely ignored the fact that he should have fitted a RCBO.

Are they nessary under the regs..I dont think so unless the cable is buried. Or is munufactors instruction Although I always do fit myself.

Yes they are necessary.
All circuits of locations containing baths or showers require RCD protection.

question is , though, if replacing a shower like for like, no alterations to wiring, is it mandatory to fit RCD, xcepting following MIs?

Must have misunderstood something somewhere.
There’s no requirement other than in MIs to provide RCD protection for showers.
The requirement in BS7671 is to provide RCD protection for the circuits.
So if it’s just a like for like replacement to the shower, no alterations to circuits, no new circuits, then no, RCD protection is not required, at least not by BS7671.

But you'd be foolish not to, particularly within a defined special location.

Before we had RCD's/RCBO's providing the additional protection we had supplementary bonding in bathrooms if I was replacing like for like replacement I would be looking for this and compliance with the regs at the time of installation.

And I'd always install a suitable RCD for the same scenario, or walk away. I doubt you'll find any electric shower M.I.s that don't state this as a requirement.

What about other circuits in the bathroom?hence the checking for supplementary bonding.
