Hello guys,

I'm a new member, about to start a career change from doing rope access and mechanic work to beginning a course with tradeskills4u in order to gain the theory which could help with gaining employment in electrics.

I was hoping for some advice points in the right direction and to soak up like a sponge all I can about the industry from everyone on here. I'm a relatively young lad at 25 and want to be able to one day pass the knowledge and good tips and tricks on.

Pleasure to meet you all.

Welcome HW, keep that work ethic and stay on the forum, there is pure gold in the threads on here going back in the archives to 2008. Read your books and write down questions you get in your head then research it on here - you can bet that someone else has had that question, asked it, got the answer OR started a very lively debate!
Gold I tell you GOLD!

You've been working too hard in this heat Rpa, you need a chill out day ;):D

HW, there's one other thing you need to know: Being a Sparky can turn you into a tool junkie & keep your pockets empty, just ask Rpa07 :rolleyes::D

You got that right!

Glad to hear your taking it a bit easier buddy, you learned to walk past your favourite toolshop without getting drawn in yet ?. Or are your feet like mine & develop a mind of their own when you try to pass your favourite shop :(:)

After being a mechanic for a while believe me when I say I know that feeling, I've got a secondhand fluke 85 meter some CK insulated screwdrivers and hammers, saw, hacksaw etc I have from my old mechanic kit. Just need a decent tool bag a level

dare i mention veto?

Nice, you'll fit in well. I just got a Stanley Fatmax tool rucksack, Excellent bit of kit.
Last 600mm level I bought was from Wilkinson's, bright red so hard to mislay & has a Magnetic base for use on Tube & Trunking. Nice level & only about ÂŁ8.99.

Machine Mart sell a nice soft Suede tool belt that folds nicely to go inside the Rucksack.
Rpa07 uses the Fatmax & a tool belt and seems to like the combo.

I've got my eye on the Kunys 1503 belt pouch as my Snikki has popped apart. It's in my shopping cart - do I tell the wife before I press the buy button - I'd rather tell the taxman!

Sweet talk her into buying it for you, but make sure she thinks it was her idea ;):)
