Discuss Baxi 600 electrical connection in the Central Heating Systems area at ElectriciansForums.net

hi Dave - yes i'm in the UK. The FCU connects to the fuse spur directly and the fuse spur then feeds the boiler and controls. Is this not correct?

That is not the way the boiler manufacturers have specified that it be connected. So in that respect it is not correct.

The thermostat being fed direct from the FCU means the boiler cannot switch the live to the thermostat (which it may not need to do anyway).

It also means that the thermostat and therefore S/L terminal remains live when the boiler internal fuse blows so the appliance which appears to be dead may not actually be dead.

My advise is get a spark in to sort it out .other wise it could be a expensive mistake.just to elitarate why are you using a neon screw driver for testing you could have used your finger ;)
Eliterate, do you mean reiterate? you need your fingers seeing to Buzz

Ok the move of the black wire to choc 1 in the boiler appears to have sorted it. I hope im not speaking too soon but thanks for all your help folks!

Need to wary of the manufacturer instructions for any future warranty issues. I'm not familiar with Baxi, but if it's anything like Worcester Bosch and you just put a Switched Live back into the boiler and there is a fault, then you have no warranty. Baxi looks a similar enough setup.

At a guess you've spent £2,500 on this boiler change, £200 on a Tado and won't pay a further £100 or so getting someone in who know's what they are doing. Sheer madness.
