Best trunking to use up to a CU?

Hi, would anyone be able to recommend what kind of trunking i should use from a consumer unit down to floor level as the cables come from under the floor up along the surface of the wall into the back of the consumer, i am currently working on a board change in a domestic where all the cables were just clipped to the wall, but im trying to protect them as well as make a neat job so if anyone could point me towards best form of trunking would be appreciated.

Depends on number of cables.

Domestic, I would use pvc rather than metal.

Square looks to blocky, if you need 75x75 or 100x100 size.

Jobs I’ve worked on where there is existing trunking it has either been 100x50 or dado trunking run vertically.
Both have been from CU up to ceiling rather than down to floor.

Depending on the number of cables 50 x 50, 75 x 50 or 100 x 50 PVC trunking.
I will generally mount the CU on a couple of 50 x 25 battens and put a slot the trunking to allow the cables to go behind the CU and into the back entry knockouts of the CU

You would have to look at the charts on trunking and conduit to work out the size of the trunking first. As a rule of thumb around 45% free space is good in the trunking. Look at the factors in the regs to work it out. Having done that if you are going straight into/onto the side of the CU then it is pretty easy if doing a 90 degree turn then you will have to drill the side of the trunking to accommodate accordingly.

What about some neat Mdf boxing that the home owner can paint the same colour as the walls

We are electricians not joiners and cabinet makers

Would it need to be fire retardent MDF though?

Absolutely, if the home owner is wanting to hide the trunking, they can box it in!
