Discuss Breaking Main Fuse Seal.. in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Having spent many years working in the DNO and witnessing first hand the results of a "flash over" at a cutout posts like this sends shivers down my spine, for everyone's sake fella keep your mouth shut when you don't fully understand the topic you are talking about

Awwww ............. don't be so hard on him .. the poor bairn's only been a member here for five minutes !!!

Yeah, but the problem would be that many wouldn't consider themselves DIYers

Well then as they would be a proper sparks with the appropriate diverse training and background enabling them to call their selfs so , they will then be able to take the banter of the " site " cabin in the manner as it was meant when another sparks rips them a new one for asking such a twotish question !
And if it is not the case then let them jog on with a sulk on , until they are qualified too .:hand:

scary stuff i can imagine :/

scares me just thinking about the old cast metal cutouts.....

only thing stopping that from going is the submain fuse feeding that main... what size would that be in a normal residential street !?!?

You mean instead of running and hiding behind a Mod's skirts???

If your lucky you'll only have to blow 300A if your unlucky 800A

I so far have a unblemished record ( apart from a edited post for swearing once , from a mod who the following week went on to let a fair bit out himself !) so i have no opinion on that one .:leaving:

Edit ; in reply to Gordie Spark

Changing the consumer unit is not too big of a Job, but as I don't deal with domestic installations I was after a bit of advice.

All I was querying was what people do with removing the main fuse + upgrading the tails as my domestic experience isn't huge.

I know many electricians who just pull it out and many that get Western Power to put in an isolator. Obviously an isolator is the best option.

Nothing wrong with asking for a bit of advice, if no one asked questions then no one would be where they are now

I meant no offence with what I said but you sounded a tad unsure , if you aren't then I have read the signs wrong. Good luck with it a crack on.

Hi .... I didn't mean you ran crying & hiding, but one who shall be nameless certainly did a bit earlier on.

I know you meant no offence and didn't mean to reply as if I took it the wrong way.

Just a few assy comments from other members.

All I wanted was a few pointers
