Discuss Bs3036 as Main Fuse in the Australia area at ElectriciansForums.net

I have just a kitchen extension to do, where the property had an old rewireable fuse board. I pulled the main fuse to change the old board and found that the main fuse at the head was a BS3036 type.

Is this a problem?

I know the industry is trying to get away from 'rewireables' within the domestic sector, for obvious reasons but is this the case for the main fuse?

the biggest problem with the old fuse heads is the current carrying capacity some are only rated at 30 amps so should be upgraded ring DNO and ask for an upgrade , other thing to wach out for is these heads may contain asbestos in the flash pads so be carefull

had same years ago at my father's house, built 1926, 30A rewirable blown. DNO came ot and replaced.

What did they replace, just the fuse wire or did they upgrade to a cartridge?

So there is no problem with having a rewireable then, as long as it is at an adequate rating?

Does anyone know the diameters to check that the rating is high enough, nothing is indicated on the holder.

DNO in my case replaced the complete head with a 1361 ( 100A ). as nick says, because of age and possible asbestos, they should replace the lot . never known them to rewire a 3036

Hi. I no this is an old thread but can not figure out how to start my own! Does nyone know what this board(s) are please?? Any info greatfully received.11022011107.jpg They want a new kitchen and as you can see this is well out of date!

they are not boards in the sense that we could call them, they are MEM switch fuses. each one seems to carry 1 or 2 fuses. solution . replace with either dual RCD CU or RCBO CU. earthing and bonding will need to be checked/upgraded. job. along with kitchen electrics is , of course, notifiable under part pee. btw. to start your own thread, go to the appropriate forum ( top of page) and click new thread.
