Discuss Calculating cable size - start to finish in the Electrical Wiring, Theories and Regulations area at ElectriciansForums.net

Hello everyone,

I would like it if anyone would be able to help me in listing the steps For choosing cable size.

Starting from protective device from a boards 'Zs' value, all the way to the cable size.

Thanks in advance
What Load will you be supplying?
What type of cable?
What installation method?
How long is the circuit?
The list goes on Joe, are you currently taking any Electrical courses? sorry to sound condescending but your question could be worded better, to illicit an answer. Have you applied for the Trainee access Section of this Forum, there will be lots of other People in the same boat as yourself, I would imagine as soon as one of the Admin Staff clock your post, they will be able to give you access, providing you want it of course, just create a thread asking for access, that should do the trick.

Also this seems very much like a homework question.

We're all willing to help someone who has made an effort and attempted to answer a question especially trainees, we aren't or I know I'm not just going to hand an answer out.

If you are a trainee, I recommend PM'ing a moderator to gain access to the trainee section of the forum.

BS7671 has all that information with worked examples, suggest having a slog through it

Thankyou for your responses, however this was a question without any data, I just wanted to know what steps you would take when calculating cable sizes. I know it's in the regs, unfortunately I have just got back from holiday and it is at work. I just didn't want to accidently miss a step whilst working from the regs.
