Hello all..

I have just reversed into someone in my works van whilst on a job.

I expect it'll be around £300 for me to pay as I don't want to go through the insurance route. Does anyone know if I can put this down as a work expense?

Cheers.

Ahh.. just thought! I bet I bet I can't.

I remember there are 2 ways of claiming back van/travel costs. Either keep all receipts for all costs and claim that or... claim 40p p/mile, you can't do both, and, once you have chosen one of the above you have to stick to it. Damn, £300+ out of pocket. Still, I new it would happen at some point!

Tbh, don’t see why you can’t put it through as a vehicle maintenance cost - you would if you needed an engine repair.
Crack on & I hope you don’t feel as pi**ed off as I do when the van gets a clout!

mine got a clout 2 years ago. woman ran into the back of me while i was stationary. her insurers paid me £800 more than i paid for the van. repairs cost me £60 and a couple of hours time filling/sanding/respraying. happy days.

I agree Polo, but i use the 40p per mile thing which means you cant claim for any other expenses.
I did feel a bit cheesed off when it happened but it was clearly my fault so I just need to pay up and forget it. Now... if she says £1000 I might not sound so relaxed!

Ah, right, bummer. I’ve had the van hit four times when parked at jobs and with no one owning up, I’ve met the cost of three of the repairs from my own pocket (so as not to have my insurance premium rocket).
The fourth bash has been priced at £1700 plus vat, so I think a claim is going in this time.
