Tam - you say "at my door" - is this an outside light?
If outdoors, have you looked at the fitting for water ingress/damage?
Is it just the MCB (switch labelled "5") that resets?
Does the RCD (double width switch at the end on the right) stay on, or does that reset?

its an outside light took the old one off the cables coming out the wall are 2 red 2 black 2 earth, there is no water ingress or damage that i can see and it is just the mcb that resets if i disconnect the light the mcb stays on

no because the red was live so connected that to the brown wire from the light black to black and earth to earth the light worked but when i turned the switch off the mcb tripped so i looked at the wiring in the switch it had black as live red as common and earth so rewired the light and it still kept tripping the mcb

The earth will of course need connecting to the new light. The old light had live and neutral connections to it. Have a look at lighting wiring diagrams and all will become clear. Then call a good local electrician who will be able to safely connect the new light.

every light, switch or socket its been like for like but the old light had two black wires straight to the bulb holder which comes from the l1 l2 in the switch the red were twisted together same as the earth. so if i runthe black wires to the live is it going to work yes or no.?
