Hi All,

Doing a full rewire on a terrace which also has to have 3 interconnected mains powered smoke detectors. I wanted to know if I include the smoke alarm circuit on the EIC as an extension to a lighting circuit, or as its a new wire just give it a dedicated supply from a 6A MCB and then include it on the certificate or issue a BS5389 cert aswell as the EIC or just include thesmoke alarms on a BS5389 cert and exlude them from the EIC? sorry for all the questions, I've searched the forum and this question seems to have been partly answered but just want water tight advice as I'm using the install for my ELECSA assesment. Cheers all

If you install the dectors on a lighting circuit then I would include the cabling of the fixed installtion on my EIC and do the tests.

If you supply them on a dedicated circuit again I would include it on the EIC as part of the fixed installation.

Before you commision the Detectors then I would do the test as per BS 58398-6

What type have you fitted grade D or E ?

one point you probably know anyway. if one of the detectors is in a kitchen, make sure it's a heat-rise, not smoke

Nice one, shall I still complete bs5389? Will elecsa rep want to see this?

Ask Elecsa bloke for a sample of the smoke alarm cert, he gave me mine, cos he picked it up on an EIC and told me i had to complete a seperate cert for the smokes.

cheers......Howard
