Years ago this issue was a bit vague whether swa or conduit could be clipped along a fence rather than running it underground which is often a pain to do with certain garden layouts, as well as more hassle and expense people don't want. So would clipping swa or conduit along a fence be acceptable nowadays?

Suppose it all depends on the situation. Structural integrity of the fence. Possibility of damage.

Also if no vehicles or damage by others things then the SWA or conduit on show is often safer. All depends on the situation but I Concider it ok and down to design and long term use.

Yes it's okay to clip it direct, with all surface work at least you can see the cable run, less chance of it being damaged when you can see it.

I would not install plastic conduit outside on a fence as it tends to expand and contact o lot over time seen it done and always looks a mess after time , as others a said as long as the fence is a good solid structure with concrete post then may be ok to clip SWA on long , What you have got to remember is all wood fences tend to have a short life expectancy so there could be issues in the future when the fence requires replacing and it no good if the fence is just slotted into those concrete post because they easy blow out with a good gust of wind
