hell there

just after a little clarification really ,when wiring a seperate hob and oven as i understand it both units can be wired directly from the ccu via outlet points for both hob and oven.

if the oven is below 3kw and (manufacturer states needs to be fused at 13A if plugged into a socket or 15-20amps if not) this is where i need a little clarification as two obvious installation options are available

option 1/ run a 6mm cable to a switchfuse spur(fused accordingly) and via 2.5mm to outlet point.

option 2/ run a fused spur from the existing kitchen ring main and directly plug hob

i must admit i would prefer to use option 1 just wondered if anyone had any thoughts or suggestions

What i have done in the past and ONLY if the supply cable is sufficiant to supply both hob and oven , i have removed the cooker connection plate installed a dual patress linked the 2 with 6mm and reconnected the cooker connection plate for the hob and added a fused spur for the oven and that was an oven less than 3KW as anything 3kw or above should be on its own circuit

very similar to my preferred option nick when having to fuse down from ccu. However i dont see the need to run a dedicated circuit for a seperate oven over 3kw. As long as the ccu is supplied with a cable capable of carrying the rated load of both the oven and hob. As the OSG states a single ccu can be used to supply more that one cooking appliance as long as both appliances are within 2m of ccu. For example if you had a 5kw hob and a 4kw oven. there is no reason why both cannot be supplied from the ccu. as long as the circuit supplying the ccu is appropriately fused and sized.

Agreed. Perfectly acceptable electrically.

Except that you have to follow MIs and it is unlikely that the recommended amperage would allow this.

yes geoff manufactures fusing requirements have to be considered, so the addition of a fsu on oven or hob may be required, still cant see the need to run a extra dedicated circuit, unless the hob and oven are very high powered devices, OSG states that a 15kw circuit should be able to be run from a 30/32a protected circuit.(diversity applied)

Oh no. I didn't mean you would need extra circuit.

Just that if using the appropriate sized cables you wouldn't need to fuse down - but MI require that you do.
