Discuss Cooker control switch needed or not? in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Hi guys, just a quick question: I appreciate that if you're installing a cooker, then there ought to be a cooker control switch fitted within 2m of the appliance etc., no probs. However, what's the deal with a separate oven and hob? I've got these to install soon, and it's my intention to feed each one separately, but I admit I'm a bit confused as to whether I still needed to put in a CCS (no socket) controlling the hob say? Any advice would be much appreciated!

Aye, forget to say, feed it from the CCS/Isolator.
Personally, I wouldn't worry too much about the 2m 'rule', locate it somewhere nearby and convenient.

Cheers for that mate, much appreciated. The client wants to use a grid switch arrangement for all the kitchen stuff, and I've seen engraved grid switches which look nice, but not sure if they'll take 6mm cable, I'll have to check that out. If not, it's back to the usual big red switch!

Good luck putting 6mm into a grid plate!

What rating would a grid plate/switch have. I haven't used them yet, but I doubt they are 45A, are they?

same as he said^^ about what he said^^^ about what he said^^^^and others.

Looked up the specs for the MK switches, and they do say they will accept one 6mm cable, BUT I've not had direct experience of them, so don't know how awkward that size cable would be to wire up in them?
