Has anyone had any experience of this scheme and considered how it affects the PV industry?

My understanding is that companies will have to pay £12 for every tonne of CO2 that they use. It seems to me that this is not a fat lot at all and largely insignificant if you were factor it in to payback calculations.

Have I got it right or is there more to it than I'm seeing?

Small and even medium size companies are exempt (you need an annual electric consumption over 6,000 MWh to fall inside the scheme).

And, of course, the government are now hinting that they are going to scrap it.

The 6,000 MWh is across all sites for an organisation or group of companies, but only applies to HH metering and also excludes:
- domestic accommodation (e.g. social housing)
- transport
- transmission and distribution

Supplies that have 'psuedo HH meters' - such as unmetered street lighting - are included. There are quite a lot of other detailed conditions that define whether the electricity supply should be counted towards the CRC limit or not. Central and local government departments can be mandated to register under CRC even if their consumption is below the limit.
