Discuss CU with a Left Hand Main Switch in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Hi Guys
I'm wanting to replace an old 8 way consumer unit which is above the kitchen cupboards. I've limited height of 233mm. All cables are top entry but the tails are to the left of the rest and no doubt won't move.

Anyone know of a Amd3, dual RCD unit , min 8 ways, max 230 mm height, left hand mainswitch which will fit the bill, please?

I'm aware I could possibly put it inside the cupboard connected via a large terminal box, but I'm not keen!

Thanks

MK have the main switch on the left. check dimensions.

Call me stupid if you want, can you not just get a "normal" right hand main switch unit, slide the main switch along the busbar to the left, swap over the L&N, then go all rcbo? Would maybe increase your chances of finding the right height of unit to fit in the space?

Just turn the thing upside down then the switch will be on the left side.

Honestly, you lads just have no imagination!! :sailor:

But then all the Voltage stuff will drip out ya nutter:ciappa:

You're absolutely right. My clientel tend to be on the poorer side of middle income so looking for the cheaper solution first! I can purchase a populated BG dual RCD unit for ÂŁ80, the Eaton (this fits) RCBO unit comes out at ÂŁ260!

Crabtree and MK are also too big (high).

Cheers!

I'd contact a local wholesaler and give them the dimensions and see what they suggest.

Alternatively, go to Screwfix, with a tape measure, see what dimensions their CU's are and check you can swop main isolator etc from right to let.

i reckon that CUs with the main switch on the left should have left hand threads on the terminals. now that would confuse the Electrical Trainee's

Pretty sure the Denmans Curve boards can be configured either way round if you have a main switch and then RCBOs anyway, you just get a double pole switch and swing it round either way.

Yes the terminal are round, these are much easier to use than trying to bend 25mm or 35mm tails which then end up pushing your main switch out of line. I have been using them for the last 5 years and never had a problem.
