I was called to a job recently to fix a lighting fault (insulation guys drilled directly through a cable in wall of conservatory), easy find/fix.... During inspection of fault, I noticed the main house lighting had no cpc conductor and many metallic switches/fittings were in place. The (seemingly new) 16th ed CU had an NICEIC test sticker approx 1 year old... The householder had been issued an EIC with many blanks AND a danger notice! My question is; If you cannot leave the installation in a safe condition, should the work be done?

Great question.

What would i do?

I think i would fix the fault (as this is what i was being paid for) and then inform the owner of the property about the other bits. i would even go so far as to say that i am reluctant to switch it back on but that he could if he wanted???

True, I suggested the house owner contact NICEIC to complain that she has been left with an unsafe installation. I have since completed remedial works including require of lighting. Shame they had to fork out for works they thought were fixed...
