Hi guys,

Got job ...studio flat just done some odds and ends that requires i put new RCD CU in property.
Very small load currently being fed by T&E from OLD wylex MCB in cupboard on ground floor. Question is The cable of which i did not install
is run (from what i can see) under floor boards into riser under more floor boards, to the CU in studio (CU in studio is about 6" from floor in cupboard.
Opinions on whether a RCD S type should be in place to protect sub main cable. only part of T&E exposed is under the stairs which is an electrical cupboard. rest under floor etc.....

????????

you only need RCD protection on your feed if that feed is buried <50mm in a wall without earthed protection. if it was you'd have to fit a 30mA RCD anyway.

What though if this cable is running <50mm from underneath of floor boards as many a hole has been drilled or cut....
obviously not buried but nails through floors etc etc......would that be situation whether discernment might be required. I mean i have no idea of finding that out but as im dealing with that circuit would i be responsible? Or as its just New CU in studio flat am i not responsible for the condition and arrangements of supply feed? thought i would be

BS7671 specifically says cables buried in walls. (522.6.101). no mention of floors.
