Hey. Easiest way to explain it is that a PT uses windings to reduce output voltage on the secondary side just like a work site transformer - really heavy yellow box that you plug 110V site tools into.

CVT's on the other hand use 2 capacitors in series to drop the voltage via "cap and coil" circuits on the primary side They also have a choke coil that cancels out the "caps" for the phase shift between the primary and secondary of the CVT and inhibitors that get rid of voltage spikes and any back feeding on the HV line.
