I have a dimmer on some downlighter, changed over to LED's and I have noticed occasional flicker on less than 100% brightness. The dimmer is a Crabtree 250w dimmer. I did read on another forum that placing a small resistor across the load will stop this. I'd like some advice on whether this will work or I need to get a proper LED dimmer?

The resistor tweak is to prevent lights flashing when the switch is off, due to capacitive coupling in the wires, if your lamps stay off when the switch is off adding a resistor won't help.
Dimmers meant for filament lights aren't ideal for LEDs, it's the luck of the draw whether they work or not but I'd think about replacing it with one optimised for LED lamps, Varilight LED dimmers, for example .

Yes, I'm looking at Varilights. What I like about them is they can run both LED and halogens. I'm not thinking to mix on one circuit, but use a two gang Varilight to control one halogen spot track and an LED on the other gang.

Are these sealed LED downlights or GU10 lamps?
If you go to the manufacturers website they usually have a list of lamps/dimmers that have been tested for compatibility.

Varilight V-Pro are usually what I use. I have also fitted Hamilton dimmers too,
