Is it me or are car adverts a waste of time? Now I find all adverts pretty insulting, but the latest car adverts seem to go along the lines of 'do a posy sport and get sweaty and dirty, jump in a very ordinary looking car and drive off quite quickly, making sure you go through a puddle'. Another is based on being able to scare a small black lamb, then drive off in 'sport' mode, whatever that is. How much do they cost, how fuel efficient, how many seats, no info whatsoever. To think someone makes a lot of mony from these adverts. Worse still some people believe them. There, I feel better now!

To understand, and accept, how and why, adverts work...is to save an awful lot of wonga :)

whenever i see/hear an advert that says i will save £££££££s by buying their product, i always think i can save a bloody sight more by not buying it.

Seems to me all car adverts are written by people who think the end-user is an idiot who believes he/she can acquire the perfect lifestyle by buying this or that vehicle...they think we're stupid! However, they keep doing it, so it must work sometimes. Oddly enough, most people spend more time agonising over which car to buy than choosing a house, which tells you something!
Apart from car adverts, who also hates those ads for a bit of emergency cash when the car/washing machine/boiler breaks down?
I saw one yesterday for quickquid or somesuch, the APR is 1,925%...
and that's not the highest I have seen. It was called usury, many years ago, and was illegal, but decriminalised so the fat cats could get fatter.
Odd, isn't it, how my daughter had to struggle to get a mortgage (at about4%apr) when the same bank were happy to lend her £20k (at 9.9%) to buy a car?
My mechanic was also told, by his bank, that he couldn't have the mortgage he wanted as his income figures didn't quite stack up...so he was about £15k short...the solution? They offered him a personal (unsecured) loan for the shortfall. How come, if he couldn't afford the extra £15k at the mortgage rate could they justify him affording it at personal loan rates? They said it was unsecured, but of course that was a lie, as it was secured by the all-encompassing mortgage document for the house which coveres all borrowings on any account with the bank.
Sorry, rant over!
Oh, and a Happy New Year to all!

I mean, "nile" and "shape" and "vile", they're all the same really...aren't they?

Now I really am going to bed...that Rioja was better than I expected!

Oh, and advance apologies to anyone I may have, unintentionally, insul(a)ted...I don't have a leg to stand on...
oh, (glances down)...yes, I do have one!
But just the one, obviously...

Back...reviewed...
see I was in muxed-ip mode, sorry!
Line, phase, live...
have avoided the Rioja tonight, and substituted gin...which always leads to clarity of thinking, don't you think?
