do i HAVE to be registered with a goverment body ? (niceic)

hi all

just wondering is it a legal requirement as an electrician to be registered with a goverment body such as the niceic :

for example if i had the city and guilds 17th edition wiring regs certificate and public liabilities insurance, and went to a customers house and changed a consumer unit which fully complied with 17th edition, then tested it and issued a certificate all perfectly done but werent registered with a goverment body would i be breaking any laws or regulations ?

As the work is notifyable, you would have to inform BC if you aren't registered!

No you are not breaking the law as long is you notify the local authority building control as the work you are doing is notifiable under part p.
