Hi, so 4am this morning our bedroom fan went off which woke me up - whole upstairs socket ring was out - I went downstairs and the lights ring was out. Checked the C.U and one of those double switches was in the off position - tried to reset but couldn't, decided to go back to bed!

So this morning we've checked the whole house and the hob was off - must be on the same RCD, so I put the hob isolator in the off position and presto the electrics sprung back into life! The hob is over 10 years old so we've decided to replace it - sorry for all the waffle but I figured it best to give a brief history before asking... Do I need an Electrician to fit a new hob? When we got this one fitted when we moved in we had to get an Electrician to fit it - is it the same procedure?
We're in Southport, Merseyside btw if anyone fancies a small job?
Thanks, Alan

Tel's offer well worth taking up, if you do opt for Tel's offer, hide any thing that looks remotely like a bottle or can of Ale.:);):p:eek::rolleyes:o_O:) A joke of course.

Yes perhaps it is wisest to get in an electrician. If the hob is causing the RCD to trip it could possibly be the circuit it is on, not the hob necessarily. An electrician can make sure of that for you so that you know it is the hob not the circuit.

Nice one,Tel...but don't be disappointed when you get there, and find out it is nowhere near the Mersey :)

Tels a good guy, I am glad it went well, ps if your hub caps are gone you will know why lol

I'm guessing it wasn't straightforward ...
the hole in the worktop was shy by 10mm each way. took a lot of wood butchery to enlarge it to fit. just my luck not to have taken a jigsaw.

hand saw and a multitool. took over an hour to cut it out.

@telectrix’s working patch seems to be 150 mile radius of his pint glass - I’m sure he’s keeping this country afloat (that’s not a comment on his drinking)
It’s nice to see professionalism - from your armchair!
