Downlights

Hello i am in the process of fitting three downlights but there is no earth connection on the lamps,i have run the switched live neutral and earth into a junction box in the loft and than fed x3 1.5mm twin earth to each lamp but not sure if it is alright to terminate the earth wires in choc box at each lamp or do all the earths need to be joined together.

Picture of the lamps.? Why have you run each one individually to a junction in loft and not loop in/out @ each fitting?

As a bus driver the op probably doesn't know what loop in loop out means... To op please get a local electrician to come and help you

Hello,i have run them into a junction box as the electrical connectors on lights is quite compact and thought it might be easier to run individual cable to each light,is the best method to loop in and out and than park the final earth cable in a choc box.Thank you for your reply.

These downlights are been installed in front of sliding wardrobe doors,and yes they are double insulated.

They are going into a lowered false ceiling in bedroom with wardrobes sat behind them,construction is timber and plaster board.

As the fittings are class II, then terminating the cpc in the lamp connector block is OK, at the remote junction box the cpcs should be joined to the supply cpc so that an earth is run to each point (light fitting) in the circuit even though it is not required for the light fittings you show.

Out of interest, what junction box are you using?

1.0mm² is significantly easier to terminate in small terminal blocks. That said, I tend to loop into a Wagobox and run a short length of 2 core flex (or T&E with the E pulled out) to the actual fitting.

Just a 20 amp x4 terminal round JB.

As long as it's fastened down and accessible should be ok. And cables clipped to provide support.

Yes it is all secure clipped and JB screwed down.
