Hi there,

Does anybody know where I could get hold of a double-pole double-throw switch (also known as a four-way-switch, crossover switch and change over switch)? I would like to control a set of lights with three switches, and it is possible by using two SPDT switches at each end (like in a two-way switch circuit) and putting a DPDT switch in the middle (which would swap over the travellers). Does anybody know where I could get hold of such a switch? It would only need to be rated at 10A, but it would need to suit British Standards. I want it to look like a rocker light switch too if possible, not a big red isolator switch.

Thanks.

we call them intermediate switches. so waht your trying to do is wire a 2 way and intermediate system. For your information, you can use as many intermediate switches as you want.

you can buy them at any electrical wholesalers

Aaah, yes. This would appear to do the trick. I thought intermediate was just a two-way switch with centre off for some reason - intermediate being the off setting in the middle. However, I appear to be wrong. Thanks a lot!

You are using a mix of US and UK terminology and they do not necessarily match up.
In the US an intermediate switch is a four way switch. UK two way switch is, I think a US three way switch.
