If Toolstation sell exactly the same pit cover then maybe phone them for a key. I'm sure a couple of flat screwdrivers and a pair of pliers will open the lid, it's probably just stuck with debris around the rim.
 
when new the keys are actually in a plastic airfix style frame at the top, just below the lid, most people dont even bother to open the lid when installing ive found as the keys are still in their. it will open easy enough with a flat blade screwdriver though
