Hello!

I’ve been working as an Electrical Heating Engineer for the past 5 years for one of the biggest heating company’s in the UK. I’ve had over 25 years working as an Electrician and about 15 years of that was working on the commercial side of things. When comes to heating system, I’ve pretty much self tought and I’m learning new things all the time. I currently work mainly on domestic heating with a little commercial here and there. Most of the work I do is working with Y and S plans, solar systems, GSHP, Electric wet systems and Air source.

Hope to be able to help out and looking forward to learning more.

I’ve noticed that. It makes me laugh when they tell the customers that a specialist is needed to work on the electrics for their heating systems.
We wire heating systems for at least 3 local sparks when it crops up on their jobs ....mind you one of them local "so called sparks" phoned me up a few Fridays ago, about 8 in the evening, nearly in tears as he took some switches off to replace them and couldn't get the two way working or top landing lights to work. I went over to take a look and admittedly it wasn't wired/previously connected in a conventional manner but took me all of 15mins to sort. He had been there for over 4 hours pulling his hair out :D He was that glad he tried bunging me a ton!

Some of my,"electrical operators",shall we say:eek:,call me ,when a fault finding adventure...isn't fun,anymore.
Also,i find, some find the electrical side somewhat harder,if the full operational aspects of the system involved,is not understood.

Repairs and fault finding on set-ups,already wrongly installed or added to,does not help a time constricted spark;)

I have always just assumed,that every new system,has cross-over feeds and neutrals,wrong components,cocked-up and non-compatible components,and,A,B and C,work fine,as long as D is in a certain position

Funny that! Had the same problem last weekend. Chap asked me to wire a new consumer unit for him at his house. When I arrived, I found out he had wired the whole property him self. Straight away alarm bells started ringing in my head. Reluctantly I did it, only to find that he nailed the ring main in 2 places and had a sheared neutral between the stairs and hallway that would also trip out an RCBO. Turned into a all day job and still having to go back and sort out all the other problems he’s caused. We all know the morale of this story
