Hey guys,
I'm currently doing my level 3 install qualification and I've been asked by someone to replace an electrical shower unit for them, now from my knowledge I am allowed to do said work as long as the power rating of the shower is the same as the old one and that it doesn't need a new rcd or wiring. However it is illegal to do electrical work in a wet room without having the correct qualifications and competency. Can anyone clear this up for me please as I'm confused

You’re probably thinking about Part P, where you have to notify the LABC about work within the zones.
There’s no law saying you have to be qualified to do electrical work.
As far as I am aware, maintenance whether it’s in the zones or not, does not require notification.

Hi,the above is all good...the only thing i would add,is like-for-like,is OK,as long as original install was correct.
Swapping a 7.5kW for another 7.5kW,is fine,until it is discovered,the first had a 2.5t&e feed.....:)

(The above offer,is not intended as a slur/jibe/pedant...all other opinions apply...taken from real world example....normal T's and C's apply......;))

I would just add, replacing a faulty shower unit with another, maintenance wise, without the manufactures instructions of RCD protection (which only has to be taken into account), is not worth putting your arse on the line, so to speak.
