Hey guys,

I’m a Hungarian qualified electrician and I want to be a sole trader. I tried to google what my best options are but it’s not that clear for me so I’d really appreciate if someone could help me here..

Do I must be a member of niceic/elecsa etc to work (and give certificates) on domestic houses or it is optional?

I’ve got 17th edition and 2392 so far and I’m happy to take extra courses if I have to..

I recall reading on here, about acceptance of qualifications from outside UK. Perhaps someone will post about that.

If your going to do mainly domestic work, you'll need to be in one of the schemes, to make it financially viable for yourself, in my opinion.

The various schemes will list the qualifications they expect to see, to join them. I see you have the 17th & Initial Testing & Inspection, think you'll have to demonstrate a core electrical installation qualification of some sort.

Yes a course such the 2365 (believe they accept the level 2).

You don't need to be part of a scheme but if you need to notify any works the council charge around £150-200, 1/3 the cost of a scheme subscription! Worthwhile joining a scheme because if you can prove to customers you are a member they'd be more inclined to use you (they vet there members to demonstrate competence.
