Hi
Ive decided to get my van sign written and cant make my mind up whether to have Electrician under my name or Electrical on the van.
I'm a sole trader concentrating mainly on domestic work.I am leaning towards Electrician would like to hear your opinions and any pics of your vans would be much appreciated.
Cheers

Taking your name above I think Maccas Electrical sounds/looks better as Electrician can be hard to incorporate into a name assuming you are using a name.

well, if you post the name you will be using, it would help. once decided, get it listed in the forum directory.

Maccas Electrical, Maccas Electrical Services, Maccas Electrical Solutions, Maccas Electrical Services & Solutions, Maccas Electrical Contractors. Just not Maccas Electrician or Maccas the Spark imo.

It's like with other trades - Maccas Tiling (nor Maccas Tiler), or Maccas Plumbing & Heating (Not Maccas Plumber)

I discussed this question with my best friend - concrete business - and brother-in-law - plumber to start off with but now that business and catering. They said if you are starting off don't use your real name just in case you want to sell up or God forbid you have troubles - be anonymous in other words. Try to avoid too many syllables or long words - you will be saying and writing it often. So Amp Electrical rather than Hertfordshire Electrical. Be distinctive - so many folk fo good reasons are ABC Electricians - so what about Lion Electrical as it allows you to use the lion and all that a lion conjurs up as an image and a differentiator - king of the jungle, but don't get carried away. Obviously not Slug Electricians - leave that for some other trade. You ought to have branded work wear - so keep it as simple as you can and yet MEMORABLE. What ever you pick think about a slogan, not cheesy which sums up what you and your business are about - so is it safety, or neatness, or vulnerable people, or new technology(eg: smart homes or modular wiring), or difficult projects, or special situations, or refurbishment.

Here are six things I found on-line:

Here are six considerations.
  1. Identify your target market. First, think about who your target demographics are. ...
  2. Learn your competitors' brands. Next, start evaluating your competitors' brands. ...
  3. Separate your unique differentiators. ...
  4. Define your brand as a 'person.' ...
  5. Apply your brand personality to multiple areas. ...
  6. Get help.

I would disagree with Marconi on the anonymous naming. Customers want to know who you are. Getting a good name is everything.
If you start off thinking you may not make it so I better stay anoymous, you won't make it.
I incorporated my address into my business name so people know where I live. They love it. If I do a bad job they know what door to knock on, which is fine as I don't have anything to hide or anyone to hide from.
I totally agree with the rest of marconis post.
