Engraving MK sockets

Evening all, bit of a pointer needed if you please! I'm looking at buying an engraver for traffolyte to make basic labels, but wondered if anyone has any experience in engraving MK accessories? I've spoke to a few people on the phone at different companies and it seems the capability to do it is like rocking horse $h1t€. I know they have curves on them and I appreciate things aren't as simple as they seem.

I've had them on loads of jobs, all different makes and models. I think apart from first use it's pretty unnecessary and it looks terrible, but I'll ask who does them when I get to work tomorrow.

Then have a look at having some proper labels made.

That is what we do, drill and fix them if you like or glue.


We use burton engraving

I can't see the point of sticking a label on an accessory if it's possible to get them engraved? We use the normal Treffolyte labels for panels and distribution boards etc and for motor control panel doors with push buttons and indication on it.

we do the same.

But engraving like that looks crap.

Maybe have a look at laser engraving etc. It will look neater (if it doesn't melt the accessories)

I have a proper engraver (proper dremel one)

I use it to mark up my kit at I work with thieving bastwards.

Marking plastic doesnt look very good and is not as easy as it looks.

If you insist on doing it yourself get loads of practise on a blank plate

Right, I see your point, I'm not going to be using a multi tool, it's a piece of kit that costs a few bob, not by hand either, it has a computer program

Are you sure your not after a cnc engraver?

A cad controlled machine is what your after

No, at least I don't think so, the one I'm looking at is a Xenetech 1625

Last engraved labels i used were from a professional engraving company light switch size 25mm x 10mm were 10p each and my brother printer prints out very good labels where i can print anything i want on clear tape and you can hardly see it does most jobs i need

I would say that so long as you have a clamping system that can hold the appropriate wiring accessories in place and hold a particular surface level, then you should be OK.
I would suggest that ensuring you only engrave on the flat surfaces would avoid trying to adjust for a curve.
