It could be done but most smart controls are designed for wet central heating systems rather than economy 7 hot water controls.

The only one I'm familiar with that could do the job is the honeywell evohome system as it needs to switch a 3kw load but that really is overkill.

What are you trying to achieve?

I had a look at this previously and I may be reading it wrongly but I reckoned this was for a boiler based hot water system. Maybe I've picked it up wrongly. I have to HW cylinders each with two immersion heaters running on economy seven plus a boost function via the Horstmann boxes. This is a holiday home so when we leave we leave clocks running but can switch off the feed on the box to the two heaters spurs. I'd like to be able to remotely switch this back on a day before so that the water heats the night before we arrive. I've just been thinking and maybe the answer is to look at the switching on the fused spur to the main immersion heater and just the leave the box running as normal. That might work? Can I make that fused spur remotely controllable I wonder.

It's basically using the hive to control a relay / contactor.

You have 4 elements to control each drawing 13a.

The smart heating controls are rated at less than 5a so the signal from the smart controls is used to operate a contactor rated at >13a for each element.
Otherwise your smart controller would become very hot and very dumb very quickly.

It is relatively easy to do but how it is done depends on how much control you want over the system and how much you want to spend.

One signal can operate as many switches as you like.

Once you explain what it is you want most electricians will be able to make it work for you but it is certainly not a diy project.

Hi dave, new to the forum, i try to specialise in automation and smart home is somthing i am currently working on myself.
Your immersion heater will draw to many amps for the low amp controls of nest hive or tasimo.
Wireless controlled switched spur could work but would then be separate to your smart system requiring a different app etc.
You could connect to nest or hive by running the lower amp relay to control some higher powered relays that are separate.
This would mean all your controls would be accessible remotely.

If you would like more info on this. Let me know. Or i can take a look for you as Perth is just down the road.
Mike

Michael, thanks for that. If you want to give me your email I can send some pics and explain what I'm thinking. Cheers!

Hi dave could you send me a pm so i can give you my email. Rightfully and what i expected was for it to be removed from my post.
I cant start a pm with you as your profile doesnt allow it

Michael.

P. S thanks moderator.

If it’s only to give the hot water a head start why not only connect one element that way you can switch the rest on when you get there, unless you are jumping straight into a bath on arrival I can’t see any point

Yes broadly you are right, but for paying guests id like to have the hot water available. Thanks
