Discuss Extractor fan install on openable window? in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Can anyone shed light on this situation.

I have been asked to install an extractor fan into an openable window located in a student let. The window opens sideways. The bathroom was previously installed into the loft of a back to back property with a dormer.

The bathroom was added by taking space from the loft bedroom and creating the bathroom and thus reducing the size of the loft bedroom.

All students are young ladies....so not really surprised at this unusual request.

From common sense I would not recommend having it done. Due to the likely event that the window could be left open and exposed to the elements from both sides and may become a shock hazard. Even a low voltage system would be vulnerable.

Do the building regs have any recommendations.

Any help much appreciated.

Not sure how you'd install cabling to a fan in an opening window. I'd say this wouldn't be a good idea.
