Do you have one?

I mean is it best to buy the cheapest in town or does the quality vary?

I am due to buy one but am not sure which to get.

I am not an expert in this field so does anyone have a favourite brand?

Tanks a million.

Great boards, a joy to work on.

Test well....Very fast, consistant trip times.

EXPENSIVE

Stella artois moment!

Wylex CU, so I guess it must be a Wylex RCBO then.

It's the fridge freezer, I would like it to be on a separate RCBO.

A good plan.

Which scheme are you going to join then?

By the sound of your jobs/posts you are working outside the rules of Part P or are you paying LABC a lot of money?

I work with an electrical guy who is NIC, it's all above board, I am his part time apprentice.

I think I shall join Napit for starters and then see what happens after.

I like the reduced height RCBOs made by some manufacturers, such as Protek, (but not Wylex) since you can actually get them in to the old CU past the rats nest. However in accordance with manufacturers instructions (since they want your money, sorry, because the CU is type tested) you need to use the same manufacturer.
However I am certain that if you use a new RCBO in an old board that the old board would not have been type tested with the new model RCBO because they weren't made then...Hmm!?

BS EN 60439-3:1991 as amended 2009, effectively restricts the choice to the manufacturers type tested RCBO and Distribution Board combination. Any deviation from this and the Sparky would become responsible for type testing and certification of the combination he has chosen ... not a viable option IMO.

So from this you would not sensibly be able to fit an RCBO into a CU that was made over ten years ago as they would not have been tested with RCBOs? you would have to change the CU to a more modern one.
