howdy all

I am currently wiring and 6 bedroom new build house in Scotland. The architect has specifiedd a category L1 grade D system with multi sensor detectors. The usual heat in the kitchen etc. He has also asked for a fire alarm panel. I havent heard of a fire panel in a house before . Does anybody know what hes on about?

Having a fire panel is normally a BS5839-1 system, unusual in a domestic house.
Might be worth a quick phone call to the architect as he has also mixed together category’s.
Part 1 category’s are L1 , Grades of D etc are normally BS5839-6 systems. So potentially no matter what you install could be wrong.
I’d personally ask him which BS. He is asking you to use. BS5839-1 or BS5839-6 .
Very unusual to put a panel in a domestic house, do you know if it is going to be used to house people with maybe learning difficulty’s or behaviour issues where there may be staff on site ?.

I think you mean LD1, Grade D. LD1 being the Category of system and Grade D being the Type of system.

I did 4 very large houses 3 story as two of the bedrooms was dormers in the roof and the floor area was above a certain Mtrs2 and had to have a full LD2 with a panel this was six years ago.

Best thing to do if this is outside your scope is to get a third party design then you install to that, most manufacturers will do this.
