Firex smoke alarms

has anyone had any dealings with FireX smoke alarms. We have them in the houses we look after and they are a right pain. I do an oncall stand by and I can usually guarantee at least one call to sort out smoke alarms that are going off for no reason or that is the way it seems. The alarms in question are of the optical type and for some bizzare reason it is always the one at the top of the stairs that is the culprit. Any ideas for the cause as I am stumped, it could be that the alarms are just rubbish and I am stuck with them, I would never fit them in my house.

think i know them

round with flyleads and a separate mounting base and cheap battery maybe

prob prone to trouble alright

usually optical downstairs and ionization near the bedrooms

thats them they are the 240 type with a battery thats needs to be charged also cannot change it as it is factory fitted

Is it near the bathroom? As the opticals can be set off by steam or dust or aerosol spray.

Agree with ggf. Could be steam from bathroom. Use AICO myself - never had any problems.
