Hi Guys,

I've just swapped over to a Fluke 1654B MFT and I have a question about measuring the Re using the loop test function.

Anyway, on the full caffeine loop test there is a little button where you can toggle the lower display to swap between PEFC measurement and the Re element of the Ze value. So, I appreciate that the Re value is the part of the Ze value that is just the earth resistance component but, my question is, does anyone have an idea of how it calculates this?

My theory is that seeing as it's a 3-lead test, that it measures the L-N loop value divides it by 2 (in the assumption that the L&N paths will have the same resistance), and then subtracts that value from the L-PE measurement???

Plus, is this test valid for UK supplies and if so, which types? I assume it works for TT but what about TN-S and TN-CS, aren't they just going to show the same value as the Ze reading????

what do you think,

Steve

Re should be the external resistance.
A bit like Ze but without the capacitive and inductive resistive elements.
There's probably a mathematical formula to work this out?

R
E is the resistance of the earthing arrangement of the transformer substation.
RA is the sum of the resistances of the earth electrode and the protective conductor connecting it to the exposed-conductive-parts.
The different letters are quite important.
