Hi Fellas. Not been on here for a while as been hectic and a lot of working away. HNY to u all.
anyway, just need to quickly clear this up . We are periodic testing a very large school lacally , something like 50 fuseboards etc, Small and large.I know the frequency for existing installations is 5 years or less.If the school has a very large extension, added to it which now has an extra 4 3 phase Dbs, can someone verify that these DBs need to be tested after 5 years, and not 10 as in Domestic new builds..

i'd opt for 5 years, but you may find the LEA specify the testing interval.

10 Years is only for domestic. Recommend 5 Years.

With that amount of DB's a better solution may be staggering the EICR's over a five year period, rather than cramming in over 50 DB's in one shot every 5 years. Things have a tendency of getting lax in the quality of inspection and testing, when you are faced with that many boards to complete in one go....

And the fact that an electrician will be at the School every year, should the Principal or caretaker have any electrical worries/problems or queries they would like to discuss!!

As Eng said, with an installation of that size we'd recommend a programme of inspections. One DB a month maybe. That way we could arrange access on one evening or weekend day a month which minimises inconvenience to the user of the installation as well. It's silly trying to cover large installations all in one go as you will always be limited in what and how many tests you can carry out.

As the posts above is one solution for an EICR if its impracticable to do in one hit.

Also, if you have a regular on-going maintenance/surveillance and inspection/test regime at the school then you dont need actually need a formal EICR completed --- unless the LEA demand one! The schools duty of care for electrical safety under HASAW, EAWR etc... is met by this regime. Just make sure appropriate documentation is kept showing what/when/where/how etc... was done! It's a commonly used "process" in big industrial installations so no reason why it can be "scaled" down to a school.

Thanks for the quick replies fellas. its as ithought. N o matter how long you have been in the game , always best to check.
While i am on . Any one come across CHILTON distribution boards and equipment? seems the went out of business in the 50s after being took over by OTTERMILL. Probably the most dangerous looking boards i have ever seen. once you take off the cover. Think these have been around so long, think they hadnt "invented "BS numbers then. LOL
