Hello folks,

In my garage I have a very old flourescent light fitting that needs replacing asap.

The information on the current installation is that the fitting takes two 70W T8 tubes. Each of these tubes is almost 6 feet long and combined they give off quite a reasonable amount of light. Whilst the light is reasonable, it takes a while to 'boot up' as it were.

What I am thinking at the moment, is to replace this fitting with something more up-to-date. My question therefore is, is there an LED unit that someone can recommend that gives of at least as much light, if not more, and with a quicker response when switched on.
Oh! and not too through the roof cost-wise if possible.

Many thanks.

Hi,

There are loads of led fixtures out there to replace flourescents. Search for 6ft LED batton and you will find them. (Here is one example https://www.screwflix..com/p/lap-twin-led-batten-60w-5600lm-5ft/7223v)

You can also get replacement tubes for flourescent fittings but the internal wiring needs to be modifed to bypass the balast so it makes more sense to just replace the fitting.

Sorry this one is 6ft https://www.screwflix..com/p/lap-twin-led-batten-60w-6000lm-6ft/3428v

I’ve fitted a couple of those Screwfix units. They’re fecking bright!!!

Most if not all equivalent length replacement LED battons, are more than a match in brightness than their fluorescent predecessors, will last indefinitely, generally don't suffer from poor starting when the temperature is low and are cheap as chips now.

As it's nearing Xmas, treat yourself. If ones not bright another, buy another.

WOW what a difference. The job has been completed to my total satisfaction and the light output is simply amazing. I'm going to have to sort my sunnies out each time I go into the garage, and it's still only February!
Many thanks folks for pointing me in the right direction.
Drive carefully, be safe.
thanks a million.
