hMMMMMMMMMMM great for stiring a hot coffee .................... Ok to a degree and I do own one but rarely use it to be honest. It is something I could do without, so suppose minus 1

They're good for checking for a voltage where you can't get to a terminal, (eg a cable) but shouldn't be used to replace safe isolation.

There was a post earlier about an electric shock being recieved because someone had stolen electricity from a flat landing. If the main fuse is pulled then you would hope the electrical installation was dead.

The OP mentioned in his post about testing each outlet. I would hope that you really do not need to do that once the main fuse is pulled. But, stolen electricity is an example of when things can go wrong.

That post opened my eyes. Anything is possible.

This might be where the volt-stick could be a very useful tool.

Before you touch anything you use your 'volt-stick'.

Then you check again.

Does any know of a quality volt-stick?

A volt stick or voltage indicator picks up electric magnetic fields present with current that operates an internal switch to send power from the battery to the led to show that electricity is present. That also includes static electricity and magnetic fields from other sources so it should not be relied upon solely before working on that circuit.
