Hi,

So last year we bought a house and didn't go through and label the fuses. There are 15 in the box.

The previous owners wanted to install an infra-sauna in the upstairs bathroom, and put in a cable but never put in the sauna. This was turned off at the fuse box, but we never paid attention to which...

Well, our daughter turned them all off. So when we wanted to turn them on again, we tried to figure out which are which.

We sorted out the lights and plug sockets for every room, including outside and in the garage and basement. We also found the oven on it's own fuse. But we have 7 left over! And no idea what they do.

Is there anything we can do to figure them out?

Are there any appliances we may have missed?

We've figured out the oven, heating, dishwasher, washing machine, hot water, fridge, freezer...so we're kind of stuck.

Does anyone have any clues for us? Or should we just call the electrician asap?

I see your located in Hungary?
Yeah, that's right. We need to get an electrician in to remove the cable, but would like to figure out what the other fuses do first, if possible, so we don't have anything important turned off...

I suspect you're a bit concerned about the supply for the sauna has now been energised, and the end is not safely terminated?

I would leave only the fuses 'on', for the things you have identified, leave the other fuses 'off', and then call a Hungarian electrician.

Are there cables coming out of the fuses/ mcbs or are they just being used to fill up the spare ways?

The OP would have to open up the CU to see, perhaps not good advice. Whilst CU's are pretty much the same the world over, best not to comment too much on unfamiliar equipment, best advice for the OP is get in a local electrician, IMO :)

I have turned off the fuses we could not identify. My worry is that one of these may control something I didn't think about...

AFAIK everything has been accounted for, I was just wondering if there was any way to check without specialist equipment?

We will call an electrician in the week, for sure.

Not really, it will be a case of inspecting the fuse board as suggested by Rosco (don't do this yourself), and in consultation with yourself, go through everything in some order.

OK, thanks. I made a list of what everything does. Some of them are pretty ridiculous. Such as one rank of plugs from one room, a light in another room and outside lights and plugs together...but most of the stuff in our house has been a bit slapdash...the house was built by a plumber, and even the plumbing is all over the place. It's just a case of working through everything and improving it bit by bit when we get the cash.

Thanks for the help.

Hi,if the above is the case, then it may well be worth while,to get a decent electrician in,hopefully with any language issues covered, and get him to check out the DB,and trace all the circuits. This will enable circuits not used,or supplying more than one item,or worse, not isolated,to be identified.

You could then choose to swap things around,to enable separation of possible faults, and keep a record of size/type,etc,of any isolated circuits, for your future upgrades.
