I qualified in 2009 on the old Electrical installation Regs but was unable to find an apprenticeship so diversified and became a lightning conduction engineer for a few years. I am now working on site assisting electricians and want to get my gold card but am unsure if my certs will be recognised. Any advice?

For a gold card I am led to believe you need an NVQ lvl 3 and suitable testing and inspection qualifications. E.g 2394/2395 or 2391.

The certs you have will be recognised, but aren't enough for any status. An I presume now the 18th is out you will need that rather than the 17th ed.

I would write to or phone the JIB explained the qualifications you have, they will tell you what is needed to get your gold card. You will certainly need to pass the AM2 exam, this is a skill test, though not that difficult but stressful, just google it and get a feel what’s involved

If you have the core qualifications, then surely an update in the regulations would be all that's needed?

Thanks. Was just concerned

Thanks for the help Guys. I am hoping that sitting the NVQ 18th Ed will be all I need along with the AM2 but was a bit freaked when someone told me that my 17th Ed cert would no longer be recognised. Last thing I wanted was to pay out for the course to discover it wouldn't be valid.

Your 17th edition cert is still recognised. However it is out of date.
