I'm very new to making shop drawings for lighting. Say I have a room in which there is a switch to control the lights. The final distribution board is located in another room. I bring the home run to the switch and then loop to the other fixtures but the consultant says the home run should be first brought to the fixtures and not to the switch. My question is why?

In general, how is it shown in the shop drawings?

Hi, it sounds like you are in the USA. In the UK either method is acceptable. Looping in to the switch is becoming more common here as it allows the future use of accessories such as smart switches that require a neutral connection.
