Can't see the problem...I've used that method to fit shoes from my eldest lad,to my youngest...
 
I read that wrong! Thought he was cutting strands off to make the big cable fit the smaller lug...
In which case I would've just wrapped the extra strands round the lug and finished off with a jubilee clip...job done!
Oh well, you live and learn, eh?
